About the Race

Dear Runner,

As president of the Insurance Society of Edinburgh from April 2014, the Society’s Presidential challenge is to raise £30,000 for charity during my year in office. Being a keen runner we have opted to raise this money through organising a run. We wanted to ensure the event was assessable to all so it has been decided that a 10k would be most suitable; I didn’t think even my fittest friends would relish a marathon but would be prepared to enter a shorter race! With the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn in 2014, and being close to home, Bannockburn seemed the perfect location to hold the event. We are grateful to have received sponsors and donations covering some of the expense of organising the race. We are aiming for at least 700 runners in order to reach the target. Due to the generosity of the sponsors we are able to donate the majority of your entry fee to charity, which is a fantastic for the charity.
However, if each person then tries to raise £30 we should meet and go beyond our target meaning our charities will be significantly benefitted. Encouraging your friends and family to run too will make the event more successful and help the charities further. Obviously we would be delighted if you would like to make an additional donation or sponsorship with your entry, all of which will go straight charity.
